Longer track = more joints = more resistance = less power. Installing jumper wires between sections every 30 ft or so will help. The other thing that helps is multiple power taps (where the power feeds in to the track) around the length of the lap. I ran two taps on my 45 ft Artin track and never really had issues.
The clips will protrude a little from the track side and baseboard. To make the borders flush with the track edge trim the border sections a bit with a stanley knife where needed and make notches to allow them to fit over tack or screw heads. Now the plastic tongues on the borders can be helped into the track edge grooves using a flat screw driver.
One option is the metal clips that hold the track and are then pinned to the board. Scalextric used to supply them under reference C8232, but these are getting hard to find these days. Specialists like Slot Track Scenics or Pendle Slot Racing both offer alternatives for these clips. For many years Scalextric offered these metal fixing clips; C8232.
Running cars is the most likely cause of tarnishing. The rails do need regular cleaning. I've recently discovered that lens cleaning cloths are pretty good for routine maintenance cleaning. B) # A pessimist is a well informed optimist. # Never let reality be an excuse for negatively.
For cleaning the running surface of the track rather than the pick up rails, I use a painters tack cloth, these work really well and are super quick. I have also found that really dirty track benefits from both a degrease with painters panel wipe agitated into the surface with a stubby paint brush and then follow up with warm soapy water
Even if the track rails do not look rusty, they still can have oxidation on them. It can be enough to prevent good electrical conductivity to your car's pic
Some sort of soft glue is probably best if you want to take up and redesign occasionally. Silicon or even hot glue would probably work. I have use very small Marklin train track screws but I would not recommend as some track damage occurs. Have not seen the trackclips but they sound good too. Regards Chas Le Breton. DVD3500.
