One thing mine had in common is that the Big Briggs 31 and 35 hp went up to a peak at 2200 rpms and then went gradually down at 3600 rpms. Briggs Vanguard 31 hp 47.3 lbs torque at 2200 rpms. Briggs Vanguard 35 hp 53 lbs torque at 2200 rpms. Kawasaki 29 44.2 lbs of torque at 2400 rpms.
Clean engine with a Gunk type product. Remove valve cover. Loosen bolts and remove old cylinder head. One bolt is located inside valve cover area. Remove old gasket and inspect and clean that surface. Attach new head with new gasket using existing bolts. Torque to 18'#s with a cross type pattern. Attach new rocker arms and push rods.
